Touch rugby is back at Kelham Road, and the response from across the club has been nothing short of fantastic.
With over 100 players turning out each week, this year’s sessions have drawn participants from every corner of Newark RUFC — from Under 12s right through to seniors, with the men’s, youth, women’s and girls sections all represented. It’s exactly the kind of whole-club occasion that reminds everyone why they fell in love with rugby in the first place.
One of the real highlights of this year has been the extraordinary turnout from the women’s and girls sections, with over 25 signed up and taking part. Long may that continue.
The sessions themselves have a great energy — fast, fun, and inclusive. Whether you’re looking to stay sharp during the summer, get back into the game after a break, or simply enjoy some fitness with friends, touch rugby delivers on all fronts. And with a strong team of referees keeping things running smoothly, the standard on the pitch has been excellent.
But perhaps the most exciting news is what lies ahead. The club has long-term ambitions to develop touch rugby into a year-round offering at Newark RUFC — a permanent home for the game alongside the contact code. It’s early days, but the foundations being laid this summer are hugely encouraging.
