Newark RUFC is very sad to announce the death of former president and life member Peter Butler at his home in Keighley, Yorkshire, on Monday morning (Jan 17).

Our sympathies and thoughts go to his wife, Sheila, family and friends. He had been in poor health for some time and died peacefully at home.

Peter, who was 82, played a full part in club activities up until he and Sheila moved in retirement to Yorkshire to be nearer their daughters.

He served the club as a player, administrator and was president for three years from 1986-89. He was also elected a life member.

Away from rugby, he was a former head teacher at Newark’s Holy Trinity School.

Peter's funeral details are:

Wed Feb 2 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ebor Ln, Haworth, Keighley BD22 8HR

At 1.15am followed by cremation at Nab Wood Crematorium at 2.40pm and afterwards at Keighley RFC.
