Newark U7’s versus Nottingham Casuals/Sleaford

Four Newark U7’s teams bravely took on 2x teams from Nottingham Casuals and 2x teams from Sleaford in what can only be described as Biblical conditions! We couldn’t really have expected such awful weather for our very first fixture, however our Newark players couldn’t have impressed more. All four Newark teams played some fantastic Rugby in very heavy rain, which made passing and catching especially difficult. Despite cold hands our players showed just how far they’ve come, scoring some super tries.

Credit should be given to all the children for their team spirit and attitude, especially those who had made the journey from Nottingham and Sleaford to play us in the rain. The coaching team were genuinely thrilled with the quality of the games and the way in which the children responded to refereeing decisions – they were a credit to their clubs.

Newark showed real skill in attack with some great forward running, excellent footwork and good support play. The coaches were also really pleased with the organisation in defence, with all teams chasing down their opponents with real enthusiasm, whilst working hard to get back into position after each tag.

Overall Newark’s players gave an excellent account of themselves and should be very proud of their first performance in a Newark Shirt!!

It was particularly fantastic to see how many of our squad turned up for a Training Session having not been selected to play this time, we’re really looking forward to seeing them play in our next fixture. Great effort guys!

A special mention should go to Ryan and Luke who volunteered to make up the numbers for Nottingham Casuals, playing their hearts out for the opposition – again a credit to their club.
