Well what a way to start the season! Market Bosworth put on the World Cup Rugby festival for u12's and it was a really well attended event with 24 team from all over the country enjoying some fantastic rugby and sportsmanship (even in the rain and wind).
Newark got drawn as Italy and put in a group with Woodbridge, Wolverhampton, Shipston and Next Level Rugby.
Game One - Shipston
Newark got of to a great start with some lovely passing and movement on the field. The boys started to play some great rugby, however Shipston managed to turnover the ball and run in their first try.
Final score 3 - 0 lose
Game two - Woodbridge
From the start Woodbridge played fast and direct rugby, the boys put up a strong defence however could not stop Woodbridge scoring some fantastic trys.
Final Score 4 - 0 lose
Game three - Wolverhampton
So much more passion and commitment for the boys in their play. They showed commitment in the tackling and the passing was fast and much more accurate. Massive try saving tackle for Max D kept the score to 3 - 0 lose
Final score 3 - 0 lose
Game four Next level Rugby
Continuing on from game three, some better possession and good defensive work made this a very close game. Some great passing and movement lead to a great breakaway but a try saving tackle stopped Newarks first score.
Final score 3 - 0 lose
Game Five - Braintree
First game in the knock out stages and the boys lifted their game. With lots of very tired boys, they all dug beep to make some massive tackles and turn over the ball. Max A caught a huge aerial ball and made an impressive run. First try came from Charlie B when some space opened up and he ran through and scored. The second try came from some slow building pressure and Charlie B again run in to some space and the team worked together to keep the ball and Stanley battered through the score the try.
Final Score 2 - 1 VICTORY
Game Six - Oakham
Possibly one game to many as the boys were shattered however their big heart kept them going. The rain made this game even harder and Oakham ran some great lines.
Final Score 5 - 1 lose
A tough day for the boys but so much to build on for the rest of the season - Well done to everyone.
Thanks to all the coaches and parents for the support.
