Coming up against more experienced teams is difficult

Market Bosworth 61 V Newark 10

Newark Women travelled down to Market Bosworth for their first full 80 minutes game of rugby, with no subs available they knew it would be a tough challenge.

Newark kicked off first, applying pressure immediately to regain possession of the ball.

The forwards worked strongly through the phases of play, culminating in a try for the backs after creating space through good handling, but unfortunately not a conversion.

Spirits were high as they received the ball from the restart, but Market Bosworth came back strong and with pace and power, finding their rhythm to level the scores. Bosworth used their size and experience to dominate the rest of the first half.

After regrouping for the second half, Newark came out the blocks fighting. It was pleasing to see that their training was paying off as they got the ball through hands and used the forwards to control the ruck area, this once again culminating in another try for Newark. Yay!

With a more competitive mind set, Newark managed to slow the endless Bosworth attack, forcing them to make several mistakes, and achieve a yellow card from a frustrated hair pull!

The final few minutes of the game and Newark lost a few players to injuries, leading to a tiresome end to a hard-fought game.

With another game under their belts Newark will take away the lessons learnt from this match and go into their next one with even more confidence and determination.

Final Score 61-10

Captain and VC Emilie & Jodie stated.

The whole team enjoyed their day, with a score line that doesn’t reflect our effort.

Where taking away a positive second half, with tackling and counter rucking improving. The handling is evolving, with the ball being moved around the field, asking questions of the opposition defence.

Coming up against more experienced teams is difficult but the women are determined to succeed.

Special thanks to Ian and Stuart for travelling with the team encouraging and passing on their knowledge.
