Last night at a chilly Kelham Road, Newark vets took on a Market Rasen side who were enjoying a first run out after a two year break , well done lads for making it over to us and getting the match on , all 13 of you!

Newarks squad , which included a number of returnees including Nathan Wallis and newbie Nick Edlin numbered 24 on the night(Budda and Pete finding their way to the back row for a run out) , Newark generously lending Rasen a player (spirit of Rugby) .

The first 20 minutes saw Newark set the pace of the game with solid work by the forwards taking the game to a youthful Rasen ( certainly to be seen playing on a Saturday afternoon) , tries to Newark in the first 16 minutes took the score to 26-0 with Rasen pulling it back to 26-7 before half time.

The second half heralded many changes , in the usual fashion with Newark taking their tally to 33 and Rasen putting on a couple of scores to make it Newark 33 Market Rasen 19 , well contested lads! Newark try scorers included evergreen Stuart Birch , Martin Brummitt, Alan Staines , Budda and Bryan Loftus.

This was a game played in robust spirit with lively banter back in the club house , Newark look forward to a return fixture in the new year at Rasen.

After the game the management committee ( Staines, Codd and Poulson) agreed that a light session next Wednesday night would be beneficial, no respite lads , see you next Wednesday night at 7.30!
