A very successful day of golf at the Ping Thonock Golf Course

Rugby Club’s 27th Golf Day, 2019.

Yet another very successful day of golf at the Ping Thonock Golf Course in Gainsborough on May 24th.

26 teams of Rugby Club members and guests enjoyed a super sunny day and some very good scores were recorded.

Teams of four with the best two scores on each hole all teed off at mid day and were ably supported with refreshments by Heidi Marshall and Jean Lawrence who also made the day by administering registration and selling raffle tickets.

The winners by a margin of 8 points were going to be subject to a steward’s enquiry until it was discovered that the steward was in the team. 98 points for Langley’s Andrew Fearn and his team, Roger Brogden, David Charles and Robbie Hunter-Shaw (he’s good at golf too) secured first prize.

Runners up, John Cook, Rob Mason, Rob Woolliams and Steve Cassells with 90 points,

Third, Josh White, Marcus Wallis, Jim Sneddon and Colin S. 89 points.

Fourth, Paul McCarthy, Pete Armstrong, Ian Mason and Gerry Dunphy, 88 points.

Fifth, Alan Staines, Cory McFarlane, Richard Staniforth and David Hayle, 88 points.

Barry Thompson and team with their highest score ever, also scored 88 points but were defeated on countback.

The top five sides all enjoyed excellent prizes kindly donated by John Clark and the Ping Company, an annual contribution for which we are extremely grateful.

After a superb evening meal several prizes, all donated, were enjoyed in the raffle which boosted the overall funds raised to approximately £1700.

It was very pleasing to see Senior Members alongside first team playing members, many regular guests, the Clark Family and some golfers who had joined us for the first time.

Several holes were sponsored and their generosity is acknowledged along with a vote of thanks to Ping Staff in the kitchen, the bar, in the office and in the Pro Shop including Nick the Pro who spent several hours on the 17th in the “Beat the Pro” competition.
