What an unforgettable away day for Newark U16s. With only 15 players and no subs, it was always going to be a massive challenge – but every single girl stepped up and showed exactly what this team is made of. The whole team was against the wall right from the start, yet their courage, heart, and sheer determination shone through to claim a hard-fought 19–15 victory.

From the opening whistle, Newark defended with relentless spirit. Ella, Lulu, Georgia, Star, Marilyn, Georgie, Flo, Ebony, Lydia, Jemima, Matilda, Ellie, Kaja, Molly, and Kacey all tackled like their lives depended on it. The defence was nothing short of heroic – holding Kesborough up over the line three separate times with gutsy, never-say-die effort, and rucking tirelessly to secure every scrap of ball.

Early in the game, Georgie had to come off after just 20 minutes – a huge loss to the team.

But instead of letting their heads drop, something changed. It galvanised the girls even more. They grew stronger, tighter, and more determined with every minute that passed.

The attack came alive with three incredible break-away tries from Jemima, each one a burst of speed and belief that lifted the entire group.

The passing across the whole team was outstanding, ball moving confidently through hands from Lulu, Flo, Ebony, Lydia, Ellie, Molly, and Kacey, with powerful running lines supported by tough rucking and support play from Star, Georgia, Ella, Marilyn, Matilda, Kaja & Jemima.

Everyone contributed, everyone worked, everyone fought for every inch.

But it was the final moment that captured everything this team stands for. As Kesborough surged forward for one last attack, time nearly up, the pressure was immense. Then Marilyn flew in with a perfectly timed tackle that forced the knock-on – and as the ball hit the ground, the final whistle blew. The crowd erupted, parents suddenly realised they had no nails left, and I’m pretty sure I’ve now got a very sore throat from all the shouting!

Today was more than just a win. It was about resilience, unity, and pride. A massive whole team backs against the wall, where they triumphed in adversity and proved exactly what they are capable of.

I am unbelievably proud of each and every one of these girls. It’s days like today that make the last four years of coaching worth every second. It is a privilege to watch these young girls grow into strong, confident young women – but even more incredible is seeing how they persevere, support each other, and never give up when the world is against them.

What a day. What a team.

What a special moment we all shared together.
