The under 16 girls travelled to Paviors for only their second match of a delayed season. After a run out away to Market Harborough, this would provide a good test for the girls to see where they are.

On a very pleasant October afternoon (let’s hope the weather continues), Newark kicked off with 12 girls and a guest from Market Rasen. Newark started very circumspectly, testing out their opponents, moving the ball around in attack but being strong in defence. One area we were second best was at the ruck, a few times we got turned over and lost the ball. However, our girls will always find a way and Newark broke the deadlock first with a well worked try. Paviors were not going to let us have it all our own way and went up the other end of the pitch and scored in the corner. Just before halftime one of Newark's players suffered a head injury and some time was taken to make sure she was safe to leave the field, a trip to hospital to get checked over confirmed she is all ok. Newark were in the lead at half time but is was a close run thing.

In the second half the girls started to get in to the game and were competing more at the breakdowns. We scored a try from some good team interplay, but couldn’t shake Paviors off. They stole a ball from a tackle and passed it wide, a kick through and a great chase resulted in a try. The girls really turned up the pressure and started playing for each other with hard runs through the middle and passing out wide to find the resulting space. A couple of great team tries saw the score edge away from Paviors. With the game getting tetchy towards the end, with a few dangerous tackles, the game ended a few minutes early.

Fantastic effort girls and awesome team work, on to ‘Kesborough’ next week.
