On another very cold and blustery day we had a welcome match at Kelham Road against local rivals Mansfield. Our opponents brought an imposing fifteen players, however we were slightly down on numbers and decided to play a 12 a-side. Playing into the wind for the first half, the girls were a little slow to get going and we conceded some tries early on from some strong, straight runs and fast, wide moves. But the girls are never ones to back down from a challenge and fought their way back in to the match, working well as a team and scoring tries towards the end of the half. With an injury through a tackle with seconds to go in the first half, we called half time, but were down to eleven. We borrowed to players from Mansfield over the second half to keep it competitive, thank you girls. With the wind we started making more opportunities for ourselves, building on some good support, rucking and then quick ball to score some really good tries. However, it wasn’t quite enough as Mansfield were never down, after a very physical encounter the girls, they scored a few late tries to seal an away win for themselves.
