After a good training session on the preceding Thursday, Newark made the trip to Market Rasen on a ‘fresh’ but bright Sunday afternoon. Market Rasen had been helped out by Lincoln which boosted their number to 18, we had brought 13 from Kelham Road. To make a competitive game on what appeared to be a large pitch, we borrowed 2 players so everyone got some game time. With blue skies and sunshine overhead, we kicked off with both sides trying to sound each other out. Newark opened the scoring with the ball going through the hands and making use of the wide pitch. The girls were much more aggressive in the rucks and supportive from line breaks around the park. This showed as Newark scored the next few tries from quick ball that was spread wide, all the while fierce in defence with strong tackles when needed and picking the right ruck to compete in. Making it to half time and keeping the opposition to nil was encouraging, the girls are always aware of these things. The second half kicked off and we managed to carry on where we left off, doing everything well in both attack and defence. Towards the end of the match some ill-discipline crept in and we conceded a try, some honest words were exchanged under the posts and they came out and scored one last try to end the game on a high.
Newark 50 – Market Rasen 5
