Newark 16 Market Rasen 3
A dominant second-half performance brought Newark victory over Market Rasen in the first round of the NLD Cup at Kelham Road.
Newark turned round 3-0 ahead – Matt Keville having kicked a penalty goal in the 20th minute – to play a forward game in the second half which produced the only try from flanker Jon Webster.
Keville converted the try in the 51st minute and added a second penalty in the 60th minute to put Newark 13-0 ahead. Rasen grabbed a penalty themselves before the final kick of the afternoon went to Matt Cox who increased the score to 16-3.
Newark revert to league action next Saturday at Mansfield, but they will be without Martin Brummitt.
Martin dislocated his shoulder in the first half on his comeback into the first team after taking a break for a season. Another injured man is No 8 Daley Edwards who damaged a calf muscle in training on Tuesday.
