Newark paid for a slow start to their opening pre-season game against Lutterworth at Kelham Road on Saturday.

Some 30 players were involved in a training match split into three periods on a hot afternoon.

Newark conceded three tries in the first session and scored their only try through back row forward Aaron Riley, the score converted by Matt Cox.

Lutterworth scored one more try in the second session in which Newark provided far better defence.

Newark continue their pre-season games on Tuesday week (Aug 21) when Scunthorpe are the visitors to Kelham Road.

A 3rd/4th XV training game against North Hykeham is scheduled to take place next Saturday (Aug 18) at Kelham Road, kick off 3pm. Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7.30pm. All players welcome.
