Notts Cup semi-final
West Bridgford 14 Newark 8
Newark made a bright start on a wet and windy night at West Bridgford but an early try from Will Britten did not lead to success in this Cup tie.
West Bridgford quickly levelled and then had the better of a hard-fought contest kicking three penalty goals to one by Matt Cox, a first-half substitute for Newark.
Newark were hit by three injuries to their backline in Chris Tate, Mark Byrom and Callum Slack, the youth team wing.
Newark missed out on two good first-half chances which might have given them impetus to fend off Bridgford who led 8-5 at half-time.
The home team added a second penalty before Newark replied through Cox before Bridgford grabbed the last points.
Other substitutes used included a first appearance for Akaash Bagga in the pack.
Team: Byrom; Britten, Ford, Tate, Slack; Mackie, Clark (capt); Dunning, Chapple, Barnsdale, Williams, Primett, Hubbard, Curry, Webster.
Subs: Bagga, O’Leary, Cox, Fotheringham.
Try: Britten. Penalty: Cox.
