REPORT WRITTEN BY ROB WILDMAN
All the President’s Men…thanks to Richard Seabrook for the photo of the teams from the annual Boxing Day clash on Monday. The invitation team – organised by Darren Gourley – won 46-20.
Overall there were 12 tries and plenty of good rugby. Thanks to the returnees for showing the way. Referee Nick Scott awarded only three line-outs in the whole game and kicking was optional.
The Newark team were roundly booed for scoring a try off a pushover. Nick Scott reports: ‘Not many scrums either…first passage of play in the game lasted 3 minutes 40 seconds after which Dunc Coote said at the scrum ‘how long left in the half, ref? ’
Festive rugby continues on Thursday evening (December 29) when a special game is staged in memory of former colt Bradley Eames. Kick off 7.30pm. All welcome.
Bradley's Three Counties-winning colts team from 2011 (plus guests) take on an over-25s Newark XV. Funds go to the RFU’s Injured Players Foundation. More info from Tommy Lee. Email: tomlee449@gmail.com
The first team resume league fixtures on Saturday week (Jan 7) at home to Matlock, kick 2.15pm.
