An enterprising start soon faded into a tough afternoon at Market Rasen for Newark’s preparations for the new season.

Newark needed to capitalise early on before Rasen took control to build a 31-0 lead at half-time.

The introduction of Aloesi Waqalevu gave Newark some much-needed impetus after the break and the centre was stopped just short in one attack. Rasen added three late tries to complete the match.

Newark were not helped by first-half injuries to prop Jordan Hempstead and scrum half Josh Seabrook.

Newark 3rds/4ths combine to take on Keyworth at Kelham Road, kick off 3pm, in a pre-season friendly.

There is no first team squad game due to the Bank Holiday weekend but training continues this Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm.
