Newark RUFC
SSE Midlands Two East North
Newark 79 Moderns 7
Hot, hot, hot and that was not merely the weather at Kelham Road. Newark Rugby Club’s first team produced some sizzling rugby to run up 13 tries against Nottingham Moderns.
The win maintains Newark’s unbeaten record after three games at the top of Midlands Two East North.
Orchestrated by halfbacks Matt Clark and Dan Coen, Newark’s backs relished plenty of possession to maintain a constant flow of attacks.
Wings Johnny Statham and debutant Will Britten led the way scoring a try each in the opening period as Newark began to dominate.
Statham ended up contributing four tries, including one from a run which started near halfway. Britten scored the second and last touchdowns in an excellent entry to senior rugby.
Newark led 36-0 at the interval after further tries from full-back Chris Tate, Clark and Sam Sibilski. Clark kicked three conversions.
Newark maintained the intensity after the intervals running in seven further tries. Hooker Ian Tomlinson scored two tries thus preventing a whitewash by the backs.
Next up is a trip to Market Bosworth next Saturday, kick off 3pm.
