SSE Midlands Two East (North)
Market Bosworth 6 Newark 13
Newark survived the closest call of the new league season so far to remain unbeaten and top of Midlands Two East (North).
A try in each half by captain Chris Tate and flanker Lewis Cove kept Newark ahead of old rivals Market Bosworth.
Tate rounded off a move rehearsed on the training ground to score Newark’s first try in the 25th minute.
Despite that early try there was to be no repeat of Newark’s previous games which had brought big wins.
Bosworth proved far more resolute opponents and turned round 3-5 down, having kicked an early penalty goal.
Newark maintained a grip on the game thanks to Lewis Cove’s second-half try which came from a line-out drive.
A penalty from Danny Coen put Newark 13-3 ahead before Bosworth gained an injury-time penalty themselves to grab a bonus point.
Newark’s team featured two changes from the previous week. Matt Cove took over from the unavailable Ian Tomlinson at hooker while in the backs Mark Miller stepped in for the absent Johnny Statham.
All three replacements were used in second team captain Alex Jackson, debutant winger Toby Edlin and a return for back-five forward Chris Coen.
Team: Miller; Britten, Sibilski, Moore, Tate (capt); D Coen, Clark; J Barnsdale, M Cove, Shiels, Primmet, Evans, Webster, L Cove, Fisher. Subs: Jackson, C Coen, Edlin.
Tries: Tate, L Cove. Pens: D Coen.
