Newark finished the first half of the league season unbeaten by posting win No 11 at Kelham Road on Saturday.

The victory – by seven tries to nil – puts Newark nine points ahead of Market Bosworth at the top of the league. The Leicestershire club visits Kelham Road on Saturday, Jan 28.

Three tries from flanker Lewis Cove, one of Newark’s most consistent players since September, was the highlighted of the latest win.

Newark clinically used the catch and drive tactic from line-outs to give Cove his try-scoring chances.

Cove popped up first in the 10th minute to be followed two minutes later by a score from wing Will Britten.

Sam Sibilski, the other winger, contributed the third try in the 25th minute before Cove grabbed his second five minutes before half-time, Matt Cox converting.

Newark led 22-0 at the break and scored three more tries in the second period from Cove, Sibilski and, finally, centre Alex Moore.

A late change brought in Mark Byrom for his second start at scrum-half after Jamie Sizer was ruled out due to a knee injury.

Newark now take a break from league action until Jan 7 when Melton visit Kelham Road, kick off 2.15pm. In between, the President's XV fixture takes place at the club on Boxing Day, kick off noon. All welcome.
