Newark Rugby
Midlands Two East North
West Bridgford 5 Newark 52
Newark resumed where they had left off before Easter to continue their winning season in Midlands Two East North at West Bridgford.
Despite the convincing scoreline, the Newark performance lacked a little of the snap, crackle and pop of earlier games this season.
Newark relied on a strong performance from the pack led by flanker Lewis Cove who contributed three of the seven tries.
All three came from Newark’s catch and drive ploy off a line-out which ended in Cove touching down.
Cove first touched down in the 18th minute to open the scoring before fly half Matt Cox, who contributed 17 points, kicked two penalties in the 22nd and 27th minutes.
A second try from a line-out by Cove was converted by Cox in the 32nd minute to put Newark 18-0 up.
West Bridgford grabbed their only try three minutes later when breaking clear off a scrum. A third penalty from Cox just before half-time put Newark 21-5 ahead.
A neat move off a scrum by Jon Webster and Matt Clark led to Newark’s third try three minutes into the second half from wing Toby Edlin.
Newark collected a fourth try to clinch a bonus point on 54 when scrum-half Clark scrambled over. Cox converted.
The last 10 minutes saw Newark chalk up three more tries. Cove touched down for his third to be followed by Cox and a second from wing Edlin. Cox converted two of them.
Newark will finish the league programme at Casuals next Saturday, kick off 3pm.
