Old Northamptonians 34 Newark 7
Newark endured another difficult away trip losing by six tries to one at third-placed Old Northamptonians who they had beaten 10-5 in October.
A try in the second half by No 8 James Price, who scored after a move from a quick penalty, was Newark’s only reward. James Offer added the conversion.
Newark last tasted success on the road in the league at the end of October when they triumphed at Paviors, who travel to Kelham Road next Saturday.
Old Northamptonians dominated from the start, capitalising on Newark’s customary slow start in which the visitors conceded three tries for a 17-0 deficit.
Newark did well in the second quarter to keep the score 17-0 at the turn-around.
However, the Northampton team made a quick start to the second half when they pounced for a fourth try to make the margin 24-0.
The best spell for Newark came after Old Northamptonians had gone 29-0 up thanks to a further try.
Newark put together some good passages which led to Price scoring off a tap-penalty move. Offer converted.
However, Newark finished on the back foot when the home team grabbed a sixth and final try.
Newark’s next game is on Saturday when they host Paviors in a league fixture, kick off 2.15pm.
