REPORT WRITTEN BY ROB WILDMAN
Saturday, April 5
Midlands One East
Huntingdon & District 34 Newark 14
Newark’s final away league game of the season brought disappointment and more injuries as Huntingdon put up a determined display to keep them out of the relegation positions.
Centres Alex Moore and Max Spurr both suffered hamstring injuries in the first half to force Newark into a quick reshuffle
Huntingdon, who needed a win to be sure of remaining in the league next season, were always ahead and built a healthy lead to put the game beyond doubt.
All of Newark’s points came in the final quarter when Huntingdon had run out of steam.
Forwards Richard Primett and Jon Webster grabbed the tries while Matt Clark converted both.
Matt Brewer, who moved to centre from the back row when Moore and Spurr were injured, proved to be Newark’s best attacker.
Newark finish their league season next Saturday at home to Ilkeston, kick off 3pm.
The first team will then have Easter weekend off before the Notts, Lincs & Derbys Shield final against Kesteven at Matlock, on Saturday, April 26.
