In an era when many clubs are struggling to field two sides, it was to Newark's credit that once again we were able to put out a 3rd to take on a physical Maltby team at Kelham Road.

There was a typical blend of youth and experience but despite taking an early lead and scoring four tries, the 3rds just came up short.

There were two tries for Peter Usher and one for evergreen ex skipper Tommy Lee. Second row Josh Chandler - playing only his second ever game of rugby - also chipped in with one. His only previous game had been on the wing.

Riley Anderson converted all four Newark tries.

There was also a welcome return for winger Martin Towndrow, playing for the first time since suffering a dislocation of the knee.
