3. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES

Educational programmes

Newark Rugby Community Foundation uses the power and values of rugby to support learning, confidence and personal development. Working with schools and Newark Rugby Club, our programmes help young people develop skills that benefit them in the classroom, in their communities and throughout life.

Try Again Mentoring

Rugby-related mentoring helps primary pupils build confidence, resilience, teamwork and emotional wellbeing. Piloted at Sir Donald Bailey Academy, the programme combines practical activities with encouragement and positive role models to support engagement with learning.

Young Rugby Explorers and Leaders

Combining classroom learning with practical rugby activities, this primary school programme develops communication, teamwork, responsibility and leadership. Piloted at Collingham and Barnby Road, it gives older pupils opportunities to lead and support younger children.

Ready2Ref

Ready2Ref introduces secondary students to rugby refereeing and event leadership. Developed with Newark Academy, it helps young people build confidence, make decisions and communicate clearly, with practical experience supporting primary school festivals.

Post-16 Rugby and Education

Through our partnership with You Can Do Sport, young people can combine further education with structured rugby coaching and personal development. Links with Newark Rugby Club provide opportunities to develop as players, coaches, volunteers and future leaders.

Next Phase – Education, Training and Employment

Next Phase helps young people and their families explore opportunities after school or college. Bringing together employers, colleges and training providers, it creates connections with apprenticeships, further study, training and employment.

Together, these programmes reflect our commitment to Educate, Energise and Empower, supporting young people both on and off the pitch.
